I opened my Coway AP-1512HH to disable some LEDs. It was pretty easy to open and hack. Just a few screws to remove and you get access to the logic board.
Just beware that the side with the fan/motor is the heavy one, but is attached by two quite short connectors (one for power, one of the PM2.5 dust sensor) to the other side where the logic board is. You have to disconnect them to fully open the case. I did it alone, but I think it would have been a lot easier with some help to disconnect the two connectors.
I was surprised to find a wiring diagram of the whole thing. Maybe this can be useful to someone else thinking about hacking this air purifier (recommended by Wirecutter).
The following pictures are the logic board. I haven’t opened the case of the power board because I didn’t need to. I completely removed the LED2 which is for speed 1 (the only one I use) and unsoldered the leg of the blue status LED to have my room completely black at night.
Beware the status LED is a two colors, three pins blue/red LED. I used a pair of 2 AA battery to test which leg was for green. I unsoldered to be able to solder again if I want to, but you could just cut the leg.
